Environmental Stewardship & Capacity Building
Difaf strengthens the human and institutional capacities needed to sustain environmental gains beyond the life of a project, equipping communities, schools, municipalities, utilities, and government institutions with the knowledge, skills, and tools to responsibly steward the water and natural resources they depend on. Through participatory engagement, hands-on training, and structured knowledge transfer, Difaf translates technical solutions into lasting local ownership and practice.
Technical Services
- Vocational and entrepreneurship training on waste management, recycling, resource recovery, and green business development for young professionals, start-ups, SMEs, and community groups.
- Business development and green jobs support, including business-plan development, green market assessments, and skills-gap analyses to support the transition to greener economies.
- Development of training and knowledge products, including curricula, manuals, toolkits, and awareness materials tailored to local contexts and languages.
- Training-of-trainers and capacity building for municipalities, water establishments, utility staff, farmers, community water committees, and counterpart institutions, including hands-on and on-the-job coaching.
- Environmental education and public awareness for schools, universities, scouts, youth groups, and communities on water, waste, ecosystem services, climate adaptation, and disaster risk reduction.

Training in the Waste Management & Recycling Field to Young Professionals in Iraq
Client: BFS – GIZ Program I Location: Iraw
Details
In the frame of the project “Private Sector Development and Employment Promotion” implemented by the GIZ in Iraq, Difaf, along with its partner Blackforest GmBH, conducted a series of training for around 150 young professionals in Baghdad in order to provide them with fundamental technical and economical knowledge for their own business plan development in the waste management sector. Difaf specifically provided training on the reuse of food waste for animal feed, biomass waste for composting, and recovery of proteins from whey wastewater after dairy cheese production.

Water & Soil Monitoring Training for Anjaar Water-User Association
Client: SPNL I Location: Anjar, Lebanon
Details
Difaf developed a sustainability monitoring program for indicators that were used to assess soil and water quality in Anjar and Kfar Zabad. The wetland area was declared as a community-based management system (Hima) by respective authorities due to their high biodiversity and livelihood values. The municipalities were trained on procured water and soil monitoring instruments for addressing interventions that would assess environmental conditions for the purpose of assessing and preserving the Hima ecosystem.

Training on Leachate Treatment
Client: GIZ I Location: Algeria
Details
Difaf has been commissioned to provide technical training on leachate management to engineers of the Algerian Ministry of Environment and Renewable Energy and of the National Waste Agency. The aim of this training was to build the capacity of these engineers on integrated management of leachate based on state-of-the-art technology and good practices.
